The CommSec iPod Index
Every year The Economist magazine publishes the Big Mac Index. This is a list of Big Mac prices from a selection of countries around the world. The price of a Big Mac is then converted from its local currency into US dollars for comparisons sake. It is a handy table for travellers to refer to get an idea of how expensive a country is.
The CommSec iPod Index is based on this concept using a 2GB iPod Nano in $US as a comparison. CommSec (an Australian financial institution) says it has used the iPod nano as a comparative object as iPods are predominantly made in China, while a Big Mac has "components" that vary in production costs in each country.
