Publish your own travel magazine

Are you a budding media mogul with designs on becoming the next Rupert Murdoch? Or maybe you would like to exact revenge on all those travel magazines that have rejected your travel articles? Whatever the case you can now publish your own travel magazine, and it will cost you nothing!

Travel Magazines

MagCloud is a website where you can publish your own magazine. All you have to do is upload a PDF version of your creation and they take care of the rest: printing, mailing, subscription management, and more.

It costs nothing to publish a magazine on MagCloud, and to buy a magazine costs 20c per page, plus shipping. You can also set a price on your magazine above the base price so you can make money from it, thus beginning your odyssey as a media baron.

There are different categories to browse, including travel and vacations.

I am curious to see what the quality these magazines are like, so if you intend to publish a travel magazine feel free to send one to me and I will give it a plug on this blog.

One Sim, Two Numbers for One Country, Two Systems

This is a great idea from a phone company in Macau. They are offering one sim card with two phone numbers (A Hong Kong and a Macau number). I don't know if it is a fair tariff but the idea is good as it would save carrying two phones or doing the sim card change every time you cross the border.

Hong Kong and Macau used to be two separate countries before they became Special Administrative Regions of China, but they still have their own country codes.

I hope that the phone companies in Europe introduce something like this. With the open borders with the EU people have become so much more mobile between countries but you are charged exorbitant rates when you leave the country your phone plan is from.

The end of the checkout chick?

Tesco Self Serve
Tesco Self Serve

Tesco, the UK's giant supermarket chain, has introduced a self serve checkout trial in some stores in West London. You scan the items yourself and when you are done you pay with card or cash like you would at a train station ticket machine.

I had a go and it seems easy enough to use though I don't know if it is going to work. They will save labour in not employing a check out operator, but then they need to have people hovering nearby to assist people in using it, as well as extra surveillance and security as it will be too great a temptation for shoplifters to sneak unscanned items.
