Leave the toilet seat up
On the train from Nice to Genoa I rode in a new Trenitalia train. It was so new it still had new train smell, a smell which hitherto I didn't know existed.
These new carraiges have male and female toilets instead of the usual unisex toilet at the end of each carraige. In the mens toilet the seats are spring loaded, so the toilet seat always defaults to up.
Any man who has shared a home with a woman will know the refrain "leave the toilet seat down!". Well here at least it is not possible (view video).

Public Toilets in Shanghai
I saw these toilets around Shanghai but I would not recommend using them. There are so many modern shopping malls all over Shanghai that it is best to those for a clean western style toilet.

Airbus thinking outside the cubicle
The Airbus A380 could soon have the option of being fitted out with male urinals. On long haul 747 flights there is always a long queue down the aisle at breakfast time, so this is a good idea for A380's that will eventually be carrying over 600 passengers.
With the space they save by using urinals they can then the water savings for showers.

The toilets of Greece
I once knew a plumber who went to Greece. I asked him how his trip was and he explained to me in great detail the mess that is the Greek toilet system. In Greece you are not allowed to put the toilet paper in the bowl. Instead you must put it in a waste basket that is usually next to the toilet.

Greek Toilet
According my my plumber mate, the toilets in Australia and other western countries have 4 inch sewerage pipes. In Greece the pipes are only 3 inches, so there is more chance of a blockage if the paper goes as well.
If I didn't hear this tale, I may have had a hard time guessing what some of these picture signs meant.
This system is now the custom in Greece, even if a toilet can withstand paper and poo.
