Subway Construction - Amsterdam

The area around Centraal Station and Damrak, the main street leading from the station, is a great mess of construction activity. There is a new subway line being built, the Noord-Zuid-Lijn (North-South Line), which is due to completed in 2011.

Back on the Tube

I came back to London on Tuesday after two weeks in Canada and the U.S. A week had not passed since the London terrorist bombings and I was anxious to get back as my Dad was in London at the time and I wanted to see London friends and hear their experiences.

I came back from Boston Logan, an airport haunted with September 11 memories. An American man mistook my Australian accent for a British one and asked if I was going to London. I said yes, and he said "good luck", as if I was heading off to a war zone.

Getting on the Piccadilly line tube at London Heathrow I could feel some tension in the air. London Underground staff were patrolling carriages asking everyone which bags belonged to everyone.
