Think about Vikings and you might want to visit their home, Denmark. From the 8th to 10th century, Danes (as what the people are called in this country) were known as Vikings who sail and conquer. They temporarily conquered and settled parts of England. And nowadays, their constitutional monarchy has the most equal social system and the most competitive. Its climate is temperate, and the length of its day varies greatly, like in winter sunrise comes around 8:45 am and sun sets at 3:45pm. Long summer days, the sun rises at 4:30 am and the sun sets at 10pm.

The Danes, according to the surveys they are most happy people in the whole world with their best quality in life. They are the ones who invented Legos and you can find the biggest legos at the Lego land of Denmark, where tourists are most interested. The official language of Denmark is Danish and their money is known as Danish Krone. The people are well educated and well informed yet relaxed and often humorous.

Where to Go?

Frederiksborg Palace – Built in 19th century, beautiful and majestic castles can be seen in this museum. But the place wouldn’t allow cameras and video cams because of their copyrights, don’t worry they have souvenir shops to cater your needs. You can imagine well and even experience how the Kings and Queens lived in this palace.

Den Gamle By – The Old Town in Copenhagen, it is an open – air museum that has a recreation of a Danish market town as it looked like in past times. It has been there since 1914 and has been attracting 3.5 million tourists every year. A total of 75 buildings coming from twenty towns and cities from Denmark are found in this museum.

The Little Mermaid Statue – This statue had been around Copenhagen since 1913. She is just 5 feet tall and the inspiration to sculpt her is the Primaballerina named Ellen Price. But the ballerina didn’t pose nude, the sculptor’s wife did.

What to Eat?

Danish food is extravagant and there’s a saying in the Denmark that “No one ever dies of starvation in Denmark” and “Never trust a skinny Danish Chef”.

Smørrebrød – It is an open – faced half sandwich that is a world – famous Danish national delicacy with a time – honored preparation. The brad is thinly sliced and cut in half, buttered then piled meats like herring, oysters, anchovies, crab. Shrimps, sardines, salmon, folded roast beef, liver pate or lamb, lettuce and cheese and garnished with onion rings, radish slices, deviled eggs, cucumbers and etc. The combinations inside the sandwich are endless and it should be eaten with a knife and fork.

Frikadeller – It is the most popular meatballs in Denmark with traditional meats like veal, duck, cod, shrimp, pork and goose.

Danish Kringle – It is a big pretzel – like pastry that literally melts in your mouth. Fillings can be maple – pecan, almond, apple or cherry. It is so big that can cater up to 12 persons.

Your first step of being in Denmark will be in the largest airport in Scandinavia, the Copenhagen Airport. A train or a bus is the main transportation to get anywhere you want to go, remember that you need to pay in Euros and tip is already included in the fare but you can also give an extra to receive appreciation as a tourist.
