Subject: Christmas in Australia. Date: 10 Dec 2003 From: James Clark I'm back in Australia for the Christmas holidays. Having spent 3 of the last 4 Christmases in the Northern Hemisphere, I am starting to think that what my Northern friends say is true - That it is unnatural to have Christmas in summer. This realisation occurred to me when I was walking around in the stifling Melbourne heat looking for presents and I heard "Winter Wonderland" being pumped out of a shop with fake snow sprayed on the window. I propose that Christmas in the Southern hemisphere be moved to June. Temperatures would be more conducive to eating 5 course meals. The Grinch's of the world would be able to avoid Christmas altogether, while those of you who think that Christmas decorations in shops in October isn't early enough, can come to the south for an extra xmas fix. Of course the real winner of this arrangement would be the big man himself. The world population explosion in the last 50 years has put a strain on ole Santy's delivering schedule. While this radical retooling of the Christmas calendar may be a 100% increase in work days, his overall travel time for the year would be halved as he wouldn't have to criss-cross the globe in every time zone as the current Christmas delivery method dictates.
