Annual travel insurance is becoming more popular amongst Britons, a survey by Datamonitor shows. Britons seem to be taking more flights than in any previous year and it seems that concerns about the environment are not such a big priority.

All of this extra flying has meant an increase in the travel insurance market of 1.4%. The report's author Andrew Haslip commented: "The UK travel insurance market continues to benefit from the desire of the British public to travel abroad."

Reasons for the increase in travel include more people travelling to see family and friends abroad and also the simple fact that some of us are not refreshed by just one holiday a year. In fact previous research found that most of us will now go on at least a couple of trips a year and an increasing minority (11%) will stretch to a frankly rather indulgent sounding 5 or more holidays a year.

For a notion of frequent flyers annual travel insurance does make a lot of sense. In most cases you'll be covered for an unlimited number of foreign trips over the course of a year and even if you only make a couple of trips it could work out as a better deal than buying single trip cover. Not having to think about travel insurance is another big benefit of getting an annual policy. Once you have got it you don't have to worry about travel insurance until the following year.
