Third Heathrow runway to get official go-ahead
Campaigners have warned of a new wave of protests over Heathrow expansion as it emerged that the Government is poised to give its backing to a third runway.
The move will mean that the volume of flights will rise from 480,000 to 720,000 by 2020, when the runway is expected to have been completed, while the number of passengers is likely to go up from 60 million a year to 100 million.
