Standby flights are an excellent travel option if time and exact location is not an issue.
These flights are especially good if you want to travel at the last minute as fares go up considerably when booking at the last moment.
A stand-by space-available ticket is unreserved region to region travel. For example, you may buy a ticket that is from North East U.S.A to Western Europe.
To fly standby, purchase a voucher from a selected agent. You are then required to check their available flights for that week. Airlines release x amount of seats to these agencies each week to fill unused seats.
Flexibility is the key to getting a flight as you may have to leave a day earlier or later. Most ticket holders though do get to depart on their planned departure date.
The standby ticket system is a win-win situation for the Airlines and the flexible passenger as empty seats are filled for airlines and travellers can save big dollars.
