A few tips for traveling to San Francisco

June 25, 2019 By itravelnet.com

A few tips for traveling to San Fransisco

Today we bring you a well loaded post with a few tips for traveling to San Francisco (and not screw it up). Then do not tell us we did not notify you.

1. Book the entrance to Alcatraz with advance

Alcatraz is one of the most famous visits in San Francisco and yes, queuing to go to a jail is worthwhile and very worthwhile (that does not condemn it)! If you do not want to run out of tickets, be ready and reserve them in advance, you can do it on their official website or by including them on a tour around the city.

2. Do not drive

We believe that getting around San Francisco by car is not usually a great idea. The city is a whole up and down very steep streets, finding parking can be a (almost) impossible mission and we do not have time to lose to enjoy the city. Alternatives? The public transport is quite good (the metro ticket costs $ 2.75) but there is a pass with the MUNI transport company that costs only $ 5 (all day, all the buses you want, no cable car!).

Another option. If you travel with more people and want to make a specific trip, use Uber / Lyft. In the United States they are luxury and in many cases you will spend the same as on public transport. You can open an account with this invitation and get a discount of up to € 20 on your first race.

3. Always carry a jacket with you

We were very lucky in our visit: we were accompanied by the sun and a pleasant temperature, San Francisco is famous for its “microclimates” and put a jacket in your bag or backpack is something you can end up thanking. Also, do not trust the good weather: there is a lot of temperature difference from one area to another!

4. Try the local delicacies

The fact that “in the United States is eaten badly” is a bit of a hoax. Let’s see, it is true that the country has a lot of junk food and that it does not have a careful and loving gastronomic tradition like that of other countries, but neither will you go hungry or suffer at every bite … especially if you have no problems of budget. And since we are talking about San Francisco we have to give you the good news: it is one of those places that boasts of having a few local delights that will make you fall in love.

5. Stay in the center

If you are going to spend a few days in the city, it is best to spend a little more money and stay downtown: there is no point in spending hours going to and from the city when there are many things to see and do. We stayed at the HI SF Downtown, a hostel next to Union Square and it went very well! Prices vary according to the type of room (bedroom / double) but calculates around $ 35 / $ 74.

Airbnb is usually a good alternative and of course, if you want to compare between different options, we recommend the Booking search engine which is the one we usually use.

6. Cross the Golden Gate Bridge

Ohhhh going to San Francisco without crossing the Golden Gate would be a mistake: the excitement of passing under its orange arches is incalculable and the views of the bay from there are hallucinating. How to do it? You can do it walking, by bus, by car or by bike … be that as it may, do it! The bridge is one of the places to visit in California.

7. If you want to rent a bike …

Just look for online offers (they are not usually very cheap)!

We hope the 7 tips above are useful!
