A Sydney dinner cruise is a whole world in itself. Between the drinks, dinner, socialising and pretty views, there’s a lot to take in – but in the best way possible! That’s exactly how I felt on board one of them, so I’ve broken the night into three courses (because that’s what you’re literally served), though some cruises go a step further with a playful ‘fourth course’ of live entertainment, to show you why these dinner experiences in Sydney are absolutely worth booking!
Entrée: An Invitation Onboard
The evening starts with boarding at King Street Wharf. The anticipation builds as you see the vessels standing proud, waiting to glide out onto the harbour. Boarding the cruise feels like crossing over to a place where time slows down and the usual rush of the city is left behind. And as you are greeted by the crew and shown to your seat, there is a hint of magic for the evening to come.
Main: The Night In Full Swing
As the cruise begins, you are treated to the panoramic, ever-changing backdrop of Sydney at night. The Harbour Bridge looms overhead while the Opera House glows and the skyline reflects on the water. The ambience is warm and full of life, as you look out in awe. The added bonus of live entertainment like a cabaret show or singers makes the experience even better!
Now, for a “multi-course experience”, it would be ironic if you weren’t served an actual full course dinner menu onboard! Plates and shared platters arrive one by one – fresh seafood, premium cuts of meat and seasonal delights are prepared beautifully and bursting with Aussie flavours. The meal isn’t complete without a glass of your favourite beverage from the extensive wine list.
Dessert: The Sweet Ending
By the time dinner comes to an end, the energy onboard has shifted to a soft calm, with people taking pictures on the deck, admiring the views of Sydney Harbour and just enjoying their time onboard. As the desserts arrive, you can see that the city has slowed down — ferries returning, boats docking and office building lights dimming down floor by floor. The sugar hits just as the cool breeze ruffles your hair – It’s the perfect finish to a night out on the water.
A Sydney Harbour dinner cruise isn’t just dinner, it’s a journey from entrée to dessert, where each course adds something different. The rippling lights on the water, the cool breeze and the shifting landscape draws your focus towards the slow pace of life and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday.
