Advice for Travellers: How to Stay Safe When Visiting the Capital City of London

October 26, 2016 By itravelnet.com

The city of London is a wonderful destination for tourists to visit but it is like any other capital a potentially dangerous place. Travellers can stay safe if they make sure that they follow certain rules and try their best to keep out of areas that they don’t know. Guests in the city are encouraged to try and work out the routes to attractions and landmarks. This will ensure they know exactly where they are going and how to get back. It’s also vital to know the times of the last trains, buses and tubes to avoid getting stranded at night. The best places to wait for a bus or train in the evening are in areas that have plenty of light.

Visiting London

If travelling alone then tourists would be advised to sit downstairs on a bus ensuring they can get off quickly and that they are close to the driver. It is a simple thing to say but tourists should keep their belongings such as mobile phones, wallets and iPods in their pockets and not on display. They should keep an Oyster Card to easily travel around, and have some spare money for a taxi if needed. Travellers should always use a licensed black cab as they are the ones allowed to pick up passengers on the streets of London. It is advised not to approach a driver that is not in a black cab, as this could be an unlicensed driver.

There are many excellent residences in the city and travellers would be advised to stay in the centre. Marble Arch London hotel by Montcalm is a fantastic accommodation near great shopping and dining. The amazing living spaces at this luxury residence offer many modern amenities including free Wi-Fi internet and LCD television with satellite channels. There are many hotels near Oxford Street in London but this one is ideal as it provides a lovely residence in a peaceful road. This boutique five-star property is in a superb townhouse that has amazing character as well as a wonderful team of staff members.

Another useful safety tip is to ensure a person’s property is kept safe when in a restaurant or café. Bags should be zipped shut and kept under the table away from potential thieves. It’s also important not to accept drinks from strangers and to look after fellow travellers on the trip. When tourists use a cash point they should be very careful of anyone looking over their shoulder to get their pin number or take their money. If valuables are stolen then the police can be called on 101 or in an emergency 999, which are both free to call from a phone.

Heading around the city it’s great fun to listen to music on the way, but tourists should be careful as putting in headphones reduces a person’s awareness of what is happening around them. Travellers should also remember that cars in the UK travel on the left so they should cross roads carefully. Only cross when the green man is showing and be aware of any cyclists in the road. Walking at home at night is always better in groups, so try to head home to an accommodation with fellow travellers to ensure complete safety in the city.
