Experience Taste in Namibia

May 10, 2011 By itravelnet.com

Namibia, located in southern Africa, is an extremely place with more than 300 sunny days per year. So if you want to go somewhere to avoid the cold, then this is a great place to choose. The capital, and cultural and economic centre is Windhoek.

If you visit this beautiful area, be sure to sample the local cuisine. Dining in Namibia can be a greatly varied experience, with influences from India, Asia and the Middle East. Common traditional foods are porridge and soups, as well as corn and fruit. The people here love to barbecue, which is great as meat is a very popular food in Namibia, you can also find fish cooked this way, a delicious alternative to ordinary cooking methods. Venison in particular is a very popular meat, so be on the lookout for this.

As far as Namibia restaurants go, there are a lot to choose from. Located in the capital, Gathemann is highly recommended. This elegant restaurant has terrace dining where you can enjoy a great view of the city. Its food includes great salads plus game dishes and tasty fish.

If you want something more relaxed however, Joe’s Beer house also comes highly recommended. Come here if you are very hungry after a day’s exploring. The atmosphere is friendly and you will be able to experience some local dishes as well as burgers and beer.

If you choose to visit Namibia, try the locally produced wine, made from marula fruit. This is guaranteed to provide a unique taste, plus a lot of enjoyment. Windhoek lager is a popular beer throughout Namibia, so be sure to try some of this as well.

If you are unsure about exactly where to visit, try joining a travel group or tour. Through these, you will get to experience the essentials of the area, while remaining in secure, good hands.
