How to check for bed bugs in hotels

Are you planning to check in a hotel room for a vacation? If yes, you need to beware of the bed bugs. Hotels serve as the most favorable platforms for bed bugs and small insects. Even if the temperature is high, bed bugs will comfortably adjust in the bedsheets and cozy pillows. If you don’t know, bed bugs munch on the blood of people and animals when they’re asleep. So when you wake up to fresh wounds in the morning, your body will be exposed to a plethora of diseases. So it is imperative to check for such insects in the hotel room when you check-in. Here are a few tips to consider:

1. Put Your Stuff in the Luggage Rack

The first step towards checking the bed bugs in your hotel is to enter the room and put your stuff on the luggage rack. However, if there is no luggage rack in the room, you can also settle for the bathroom. The bathroom and luggage rack are two places where the bed bugs don’t hide. So while you will be inspecting furniture and bedding, it will be easy for you to sift through the entire room. Secondly, if you don’t have hands one experience of checking a room for bugs and insects, you can ask the hotel staff to help you out.

2. Check the Upholstered Furniture

Experts believe upholstered furniture is the place where bed bugs and small insects can easily find their home. Especially if you come across several couches in a room, there is a high chance that bed bugs will be available there. Always sift through the upholstered furniture to make sure it is free from bed bugs. Sometimes, if you rest on the hotel couches or comfortable chairs, there is a high chance that you will contract different viruses from there. So it is best if you can check the entire room before resting on any comfortable flat surface.

3. Pull Back the Blanket and Sheets

The easiest way to check your bed for bugs and insects is to remove the blankets and sheets. Especially when it comes to the head side of the bead, you cannot take any kind of risk. If your eyesight is strong enough, you will easily be able to see large bugs, insects, and their eggs. Also, make sure to check the bed for exoskeletons. Otherwise, you will contract deadly viruses. Furthermore, if you are skeptical about the mattress, lift it and check for any insects underneath. Once you do this, you will rest assured that the room is clean.

4. Choose a Hard Surface For Your Suitcase

Always choose a hard surface for your suitcase when you check in a hotel room. Keep in mind; hard surfaces serve as the best spots for repulsing the insects. So as soon as you enter a room, it is imperative for you to locate the best surface to put your stuff on. Secondly, when you decide to leave your hotel room, make sure to zip up your luggage. This way, you will easily be able to prevent the insects from penetrating into your stuff.
