Top 5 global relocation destinations for UK tourists

If you have had enough of the weather in the UK and you want to make the move to another country, what are your best options? We take a look at the five best global relocation destinations for people in the UK.

1. Australia

If you are considering moving from UK to Australia, you wouldn’t be alone. Australia is the most popular destination for Brits looking to relocate, and for good reason.

If you want to relocate from the UK to Australia, it is going to be a big commitment. Moving to the other side of the world is going to be complicated, but there are many reasons to do so.

Perhaps you have fallen for the outdoor lifestyle or want better opportunities for your family, whatever the reason, Australia offers a lot. There is the sunny weather, the low levels of pollution, and the high quality of life. And, of course, they speak English.

Moving Downunder requires a permanent residence visa. This can be family, work, or business-related, and the process isn’t quick. It might also be possible to retire to Australia if you have previously held a visa, but the criteria can be quite tough even then.

2. Malta

Moving from UK to Malta is another great option worth considering. Malta has a favourable view of Britain, scoring in the Eurovision Song Contest can attest to this, and they even almost came close to voting to join the UK at one point. English is also an official language, one of only two countries in the EU (the other being Ireland).

Malta offers warm Mediterranean weather, and you can stay for up to 90 days without problems. You can apply for permanent residence if you want to relocate from the UK to Malta, though the process will require a permit. You can choose between:

• Right to reside
• Right to work
• Right to reside for students
• Right to work for students
• Retiring to Malta

While the effects of Brexit might have made things more difficult if you want to move to Malta or any of the other countries on our list, it is still realistic. It just requires a little more work and knowledge beforehand to begin your new life abroad.

3. USA

Another popular option, and one that doesn’t require you to learn another language, is moving from UK to the US. With a move to the US, you can expect lower petrol prices and more freedom. But there are some downsides, like health insurance and higher levels of violent crime. How much this will affect you will depend on where in the US you choose to settle, however.

To relocate from the UK to the US a sponsored employment visa is the easiest option. If you have skills and qualifications that are in need, you can apply for a working visa. A family visa might also be an option if you have some relatives in the United States, though whichever option you choose, don’t expect a quick process.

4. Canada

Canada is a very popular destination for people looking to emigrate worldwide. And thanks to this, or perhaps because of it, Canada makes it relatively easy to immigrate.

Canada is very welcoming if you are a skilled worker. If you are looking for permanent residency, the processing time could be as little as 6 months. If you want to live and work in Canada, you can choose between one of the following:

• Federal Skilled Worker Program
• Federal Skilled Trades Program
• Canadian Experience Program

It might also be possible to relocate from the UK to Canada if you are looking to start a business or buy an already established company. Moving from UK to Canada is also possible if you are looking to study, though you will need to have the funds to pay tuition fees upfront.

5. Spain

A popular destination for holidays, moving from UK to Spain is also popular. If you want to benefit from inexpensive and relatively short flights choosing to relocate from the UK to Spain makes a lot of sense.
While you can visit Spain without a visa for up to 90 days every 6 months, you will need a visa to stay for longer. You need to submit your application within 90 days of your intended travel date, and you’ll need to provide some documentation.

You will need to fill in a visa form from a Spanish consulate. You also need to have at least €700 per month, with a bank certificate proving it. Health insurance is required from a company that operates in Spain, and you will need to prove you are in good health as well.

If you want to relocate from the UK to Spain, the exact requirements will depend on your situation, however, with different rules for employed, self-employed, and retired.
