Top things to see and do in Macau

Macau is one of the most popular cities in China and Asia as a whole. It is dubbed the Las Vegas of the Far East because of the numerous casinos that dot the town. However, there is so much more to this city besides gambling, which explains why tourists flock to it year in out. The city can be easily accessed by ferry from Hong Kong. The ride only lasts about an hour. Macau has so much to offer tourists that you simply must stop by whenever you have the chance.

Here are some of the top attractions:

• Taipa Village
• Senado Square
• The Casinos

What to see and do in Macau

1. Visit Taipa Village

Although there are plenty of modern buildings in Macau, one of the most serene and attractive parts of town is the ancient village of Taipa. This village is actually a thriving shopping center, with rows and rows of Chinese and Portuguese shops. Perhaps it is the unlikelihood of Chinese shops being so close to Portuguese shops that make the village so attractive. Macau was once a Portuguese colony, and the Portuguese left an indelible mark in the town in these buildings. The view of Taipa village at night is nothing short of magnificent. Other attractions in the village include Taipa House and a museum.

2. Try the food

Macau has a thriving food culture, which is a beautiful fusion of traditional Chinese and Portuguese cuisine. You can try any of the tasty dishes that are so ubiquitous in the city. One of the most popular foods is the Portuguese egg tart. It is a favorite of the locals and the tourists alike. You should also try some of the local foods, such as the crab congee. Indulge taste buds with the delicious pork chop buns as well as the local ice cream.

3. Visit the Senado Square

One other immensely popular tourist attraction is the Senado Square. It is yet another mark of the Portuguese colonial era, as it served as a civic square when Macau was a colony. It is a beautiful sight to behold and has been very well maintained to date. The best place to view the square from is the Leal Senado Building- you will be amazed. The square looks even more beautiful when at night when it is illuminated by the city lights.

4. The Ruins of St. Paul

Whenever you visit Macau, always make a point of stopping by the ruins of St. Paul church. No matter how many times you visit the church, you will always be amazed by the beauty of the church when you see it. Explore all its raw beauty and your eyes will still be begging for more.

5. The Casinos

When all is said and done, Macau is most famous for its casinos. It boasts of a solid thirty-three casinos, and the world’s biggest casino, the Venetian Macau is to be found here. So whenever you are in the city, indulge in some gambling and pokies. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Conclusion

Macau has a lot to offer tourists. You must make a point of visiting the town whenever you are in Hong Kong. You will certainly not regret it.
