4 Things to Do in St. Martin

4 Things to Do in St. Martin

There are many things to do in St. Martin. No matter what your preferences are and what activities you enjoy, you’re going to find something that you’ll truly love here. If you’re planning a trip and are looking for luxury villa rentals in St. Martin, it’s time to plan what you’re going to do once you arrive on the island.

Quick Overview

Before we delve any deeper into the activities available for you in St. Martin, here’s a quick overview. St. Martin is an island only 300 kilometers away from Puerto Rico. The island is divided into two parts: the French side (St. Martin) and the Dutch side (St. Maarten).

Those who enjoy the quiet lifestyle of the Caribbean prefer St. Martin thanks to its sparse environment. Instead of being filled with hotels and high rise apartments it’s brimming with activities to do and places to eat in.

Go on diving trip

Unlike many tourist traps in the Caribbean, diving in St. Martin doesn’t require certification. You can pay a minimum of $80 to take a boat to the open waters. Once you’re at the designated spot, you’ll be given a breathing tank that’ll float above you as you swim in the water. There’s a 20 foot air line which is enough to enjoy the depths of St. Martin without getting too carried away.

Watch butterflies.. fly

Thanks to the abundance of plant life in St. Martin, you’ll see lots of butterflies fluttering about. Much like the flowers dotting the green landscape, you’ll be treated to a mix and match of colors swaying with the wind while trying to land on a stem. There are many private gardens that offer tours so you can see and touch butterflies on the route. You’ll be amazed to see the different breeds of butterflies and how they mingle with each other.

Experience a unique cuisine

If you think that the food will look and taste just like traditional French meals, you can’t be more wrong. St. Martin adds its own culture to the mix, which spices up French cuisine that you might already know. They also have island specialties. Many restaurants offer discounts during their happy hours, so you might even find yourself eating your weight in fried, stewed, and steamed lobsters.

Reach the top of Paradise Peak

If you’re entering from the Dutch side, locals will refer to it as Pic Paradise. Paradise Peak offers a fantastic view of the whole island. The view from the top is truly a sight to behold. You can see how the buildings in the more populated parts of the island blend, like a gradient, into the lush rainforest. Make sure you keep an eye out for the wild monkeys up the coconut trees though. Though they’ve grown accustomed to visitors, they might still approach you if they’re intrigued.
